Friday included visits to the National Stadium, main post office's historical museum, the National Theater and the central market. Lots of walking, some shopping and an incredible look into Costa Rica's past and present. Playa Blanca in Punta Leona on the Pacific. Arepas anyone? Venezuelan style! Melt the cheese first, then add your tortilla-like dough. Next, a Costa Rican delicacy: Educados. These are only for meat eaters though with a bit of carne filling the center of a "slug of masa." Muy rico.
The Toucan Rescue Ranch. What a magical place. A new addition to this year's itinerary and an opportunity to hear from experts in animal rehabilitation and re-release into the wild. This dove-tails fantastically with our Spanish curriculum with novellas in grades 5 and 8 about rescue efforts in Costa Rica defying poachers as well as our endangered species project in grade 7. An incredibly moving experience for all in so many ways. |
