Mr. Orwig would be proud. We started the day with P.E. or "fitness," followed by the best Welcome Assembly ever. Each Mark Day School delegate introduced themselves en español and we were honored with a two-song performance by Profe Manolo's student band. Truly pura vida. Lots of activity today with traditional dance and music classes as well as a buddy teams soccer game after school. Kudos to Aydin and Amelia for taking such initiative to speak Spanish with me today. ¡Bien hecho, chicos! Gracias a la Profe Mónica por todo! Everything is so well organized for our visit and we feel incredibly welcome. Kudos to Max Hattenbach today for pushing himself to stay en español during our gift shop convo. And, to Fernanda and Mónica: the buddies are so well matched. It was amazing to see some pairs fly across the canopy together this morning! For a moment, I thought I heard a tucán screeching but it was Ellie letting out a scream mid-zipline. Or was it Mr. Navarette?
A fabulous travel day came off without a hitch. We spoke our first word of español at the "aduana" going through customs one at a time. ¡Buen trabajo, estudiantes! Kids were whisked away by host families overjoyed and excited to see them again or meet them for the first time. A night's rest ahead and…ziplining here we come. Trip leader and chaperones are ready for adventure with this terrific group.
